Mezzi modelli barche, perché venivano realizzati nell’antichità

Nell’ antichità parliamo periodo ante ‘800 non esistevano dei veri propri disegni della barca o della nave da costruire, il maestro d’ascia faceva uno schizzo della nave che dovevano costruire mettendo solamente  le misure principali, non avendo le capacità di fare delle rappresentazioni tridimensionali e disegni di precisione, quello che diventava l’oggetto più rappresentativo del progetto era il mezzo modello che il maestro d’ascia costruiva in scala e che proponeva al futuro armatore.

Il mezzo modello rappresentava le linee d’acqua, le proporzioni i volumi dello scafo, nel mezzo modello veniva rappresentato sempre solamente lo scafo e venivano costruiti sempre in legno e inchiodati su una tavola.

I mezzi modelli entrano nella tradizione dello Yacht nella metà dell’800 quando i grandi Yacht Club richiedono ai loro soci all’atto dell’iscrizione un mezzo modello della loro barca, le sedi degli Yacht Club incominciano a popolarsi di mezzi modelli dei soci iscritti, il circolo più rappresentativo di questa tradizione è lo Yacht Club New York dove nelle sale sono esposte centinaia di barche e dove possiamo anche vedere e studiare dai modelli l’evoluzione dello Yacht nelle varie epoche.

La tradizione dei mezzi modelli legati agli Yacht rimane un fenomeno anglosassone e americano, in Italia si sono diffusi poco e nei circoli raramente gli troviamo.

Mezzi modelli barche, diventano delle “icone” nei grandi circoli

In pratica il mezzo modello nella seconda metà dell’800 e fino alla metà del ‘900 diventa nei grandi circoli inglesi e americani una sorta di “icona" legata al prestigio dell’armatore che oltre a esprimersi in acqua si esprimeva con la sua barca anche nelle sale dello Yacht Club.

La diffusione come dicevamo è prevalentemente anglosassone, con lo sviluppo del disegno nautico perdono il loro scopo originario e si trasformano in oggetti di arredamento nascono i collezionisti.

Principalmente viene utilizzato il legno teak, mogano, acero, solamente negli ultimi anni sono comparsi materiali quali vetroresina e carbonio.

Il mezzo modello rimane un oggetto del desiderio di ogni armatore, non molti se lo fanno costruire perché rimane comunque un oggetto costoso, gli architetti lo utilizzano poco perché per arredare una parete sono necessari almeno 4/6 tavole e diventa costoso, comunque se volete fare un regalo a un armatore particolarmente gradito regalategli il mezzo modello della sua barca.
